Opposites Attract – Ensure Diversity

We have already talked about that, as a tech exec, it’s important to have differing views in order to have a broader perspective on issues. Diversity is a good thing.

However, why is this? Many tech execs hire leaders like them because they feel that people with similar views will be easier to manage, and they just feel comfortable having people with like personalities around.

Consider this: If you’re naturally pessimistic and easily get angry when things don’t go your way, being around someone with the same mindset only worsens negative situations. Like-minded leaders drag you down instead of offering solutions. When things go wrong, the last thing you need is someone who exacerbates the problem. Having someone with a positive outlook can be a refreshing balance to your approach.

Bottom line: Avoid surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals. Embrace constructive conflicts and diverse perspectives that broaden your thinking beyond the usual.
